Productivity has been a subject of interest for centuries. People are keen to know why some people achieve more than others under the same set of circumstances. People want to understand why students taught by the same teachers perform differently in exams.
For a mobile marketer becoming more productive means a bigger bank account. If you can increase your output without putting in more hours, you will endear yourself to clients. Let me share with you three productivity tie that some people ignore.
1. Having daily goals.
It is important, as a mobile marketer, to have a list of the things you want to accomplish on each day. At the end of the day review your list as you make targets for the coming day. What was not accomplished today should be slipped into the tasks of tomorrow. Drifting each day doing whatever that comes along like replying emails in an unstructured manner is not acceptable.
You have far more chances for attaining success in your endeavors when you use a list of goals than when you don’t use one. This has been proven time and again and it something you should not ignore.
You need to keep your goals realistic and simple. You must make an honest analysis of your capabilities and resources to make attainable goals.
2. Make a habit of doing the hardest task first.
Sometimes we get intimidated by our tasks. We rarely realize that to eat an elephant all one needs it to take one bite at time. In that respect, break down your tasks. Writing an article like this one starts with one sentence followed by another and finally one has a paragraph and minutes later a sizzling article.
Determine what you feel is the hardest task for you. For most marketers, it is writing articles, emails to clients or making cold calls. If this is the case, then start with that in the morning. If you feel intimidated by writing, start doing that in the morning. Once you do it, the small success that you achieve motivates you to do even bigger things.
In that respect, you should avoid reading emails first thing in the morning. This should be an activity that should be spared till you have accomplished your toughest tasks first. I doubt if reading emails is your toughest task.
3. Identify peak times and work the most
Identifying your peak productivity period is important for long term success. Why? Because this is the time you need to do your most important tasks. This is the time that you feel on top of things and it should never go to waste. It would be absurd for you to do minor tasks during your peaks times.
In that respect, your peak time should also not be used for getting involved in irrelevant tasks. Assuming your peak time is morning before noon, it would be unacceptable of any mobile marketer to be glued on CNN. Watching breaking news about an earthquake in Iran or the busting of a drug cartel in Mexico is not relevant to mobile marketing.
I know for some marketers who work from home, sometimes you get challenges working during peak time. Family members may be all over the living room and that is certainly a condition not conducive to productivity. In that case one may need to adjust to working late or early morning when most people are asleep. You may consider a local library or the backyard or the nearest coffeehouse.
